Terrie Teruko Matsuo, 89, of Stockton passed away August 24, 2017. She was born December 12, 1927 to Keizo and Hisaye (Matsuoka) Saga in Stockton, CA. In addition to her parents Terrie is preceded in death by her husband, David T. Matsuo, her brothers, Kenneth, Michinobu, and Frank Saga and sister, Frances Arakawa.
Survivors include her daughters Kathy Pocoroba (Fred), Debbie Nakade, and Lisa Schindler (Dan Kleaver), and her grandsons, Steven Pocoroba & Kevin Schindler.
Terrie was interned at Rohwer Relocation Camp in Rohwer, Arkansas during WWII from 1942-1945. Terrie went to school in the Delta islands and while in relocation camp. She graduated high school in Cleveland, OH.
Terrie was an active member of the following organizations: Stockton Japanese American Citizens League, Stockton Buddhist Women’s Association, Adult Buddhist Association, Tomonokai, Fukuoka Nikkeijin Kai, Kumamoto Kyoyu Kai, and a lifelong member of the Buddhist Church of Stockton.
In recent years, Terrie’s two favorite activities were being among friends, doing crafts at the Buddhist Church of Stockton and tai chi at Sherwood Mall. Terrie will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 3:00 pm at the Buddhist Church of Stockton, 2820 Shimizu Drive, Stockton, CA 95203. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Terrie’s memory to the Buddhist Church of Stockton.
