Stanley A. Green, beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle, passed away at home on May 8 at the age of 93. Stanley was born on January 29, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois to Stanley C. Green and Stella Kraske Green. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Sonia, Florence and Clifford Green. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the Army and served in France during World War II. After the war he enlisted in the Navy for 2 years before driving streetcars in Chicago. After his stint with the Chicago Transit Authority, he enlisted in the Air Force and became an ROTC recruiter.
He met the love of his life, Lorraine Gessner, “the Farmer’s Daughter”, while stationed in Minot, North Dakota. They were married in 1954. The family was stationed in Chateauroux, France, Minot again, then Las Cruces, New Mexico before ending up at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California. Along the way they welcomed three children, Nancy, Mark, and Tracy.
After 20 years in the military, Stan retired from the Air Force and began a new career as Director of Housing at the University of the Pacific in Stockton. He enjoyed working with the students, housing staff, and many friends there. Stan was active in St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, serving as Sunday School superintendent, church elder, usher, and helping in the construction of the new sanctuary. After retirement, he volunteered at church, St. Mary’s Dining Hall, and as a docent at the Haggin Museum. Stan was an avid reader. He enjoyed home projects, Breakfast Club with his UOP cronies, old movies, and most of all time with his family and beloved wife “Laurie”. His faith in the Lord served him well.
He is survived by his children: Nancy Green, Tracy Green, Mark and his wife Laura Green, and two granddaughters, Christa (Matthew) Burke and Kendra Green.
His family would like to thank his many wonderful nurses and caregivers especially Amanda, Adam, Patrick, Felicia, Ashlee, and Ida. Thanks also to Hospice of San Joaquin.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 2 at 10:00 am at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church. A reception will follow in the church
