Shirley L. Torlai

Shirley was born on May 25, 1934 to Wilfred Samuel Squire and Amy Lauryne Locke Squire in Owen Sound Ontario Canada. Growing up in Parham Place, Owen Sound, she enjoyed a country and farming life, played the piano and loved to ski.

After graduating from University of Guelth’s nursing program in 1956 she moved to Stockton California and began her career as a registered nurse at San Joaquin General Hospital. Shirley married Oliver Torlai in 1957. Shirley loved raising her children and spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, gardening and exercising.

Shirley was predeceased by her parents, her son Nicholas, and brother Samuel. Shirley is survived by her husband of 65 years, Oliver, son Livo, daughter-in-law Linda, sister Mary, grandchildren Bryanna and Peter, great grandchildren Dean and Savannah and nieces and nephews.

DeYoung Memorial Chapel is honored to serve the Torlai family. A viewing will be held at DeYoung Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at 9am with a chapel service to follow. A committal will follow the chapel service at San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery.
