Robert Hamernik

Robert E. Hamernik, 90, was born in Chicago Ill to Thomas and Rose Hamernik. He was the beloved husband of Erol Jean for 60 years, the father of Kathleen S. Trujillo (Mark) and Gregory J. Hamernik (Kristen Robertson) and had two grandchildren Jean and Michelle Trujillo. His sister, Lorraine Schmid, died in 2006 and his brother, Tom, in 2012.

Following high school he joined the Navy and later began his college studies. He completed both the Bachelor and Master degree program in Civil Engineering at the University of Oklahoma and shortly thereafter began teaching at the University of the Pacific where he also served in various administrative roles. Receiving a National Science Award in 1969 he completed the PhD program at Oregon State University in 1973. He was a member of the UOP Emeriti Society and numerous professional and civil organizations.

There will be no Visitation and a private committal for the family will be arranged. Memorials can be made to the UOP Department of Civil Engineering or to Hospice of San Joaquin.
