Raquel Salazar Solorio passed away on August 29, 2017 at Dameron Hospital. Raquel was born on January 13, 1934 in the town of Purepero, Michoacán, Mexico. She was the eldest of seven siblings. While still in her hometown, she married her husband Emiliano Solorio Sr. in 1952. In May of 2017, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
In 1955, Raquel, Emiliano Sr., and their first born son migrated to the United States in search of a more prosperous life. For several years, in Isleton CA, her husband ran a 100 acre crop of tomatoes. Meanwhile, Raquel ran the camp for the field workers, cooking and serving them three meals a day.
In 1972, Raquel and Emiliano opened their own business - El Dorado Market. El Dorado Market was the first Mexican market and deli established in Stockton, CA. Raquel used several of her mother's and grandmother's recipes to create the menu for the Mexican food-to-go. With hard work and endless determination, Raquel and her husband made El Dorado Market a successful small business that has prospered nearly 45 years. Last June, Raquel and Emiliano received the Small Business of the Year Award for San Joaquin County, which was presented by Assemblywoman Susan Eggman.
Raquel loved gardening, especially flowers. She also loved to crochet. She made so many wonderful heirloom crochet items for the family. She is survived by her husband, Emiliano Solorio Sr., and her children Jose Luis, Jorge, Graciela, Emiliano Jr., and Hector. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Frisbie-Warren & Carroll Mortuary is honored to serve the Solorio family. Viewing will be available on Tuesday September 5th, 1pm - 5pm at Frisbie-Warren & Carroll Mortuary in Stockton, CA. Rosary for Raquel Salazar Solorio will be at St. Edward's Church on Tuesday evening at 7pm. Funeral will also take place at St. Edward's Church on Wednesday September 6th, 2017 at 10am. Final resting place will be San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery.
