Longtime resident of Stockton, California, Mary M. Ybarra passed away in Moss Beach, California on May 22, 2023. She was 97 years old. Born in the Imperial Valley of California in 1925, she was the last of six siblings raised by a single mother during the Great Depression. Throughout her life, Mary was a devoted Catholic who, like her mother, read the rosary several times a day and frequently lighted candles for her loved ones. She enjoyed working in her garden and was dedicated to caring for her mother and three grandchildren. Later in life, she cared for seniors in need through UpJohn Healthcare Services.
Mary was also a talented seamstress, using her creativity to design and sew costumes for various school and church plays. Always beautifully groomed, she wore tasteful colorful outfits which she often remade to fit her own personal style. Loved by her family and the community, she shared her great sense of humor and derived much pleasure from celebrating holidays with family. She loved sharing what she had in abundance, whether it be fruits from her trees or the clothes on her back.
At the time of her death, she was predeceased by her husband, of seventy years, Salvador V. Ybarra and son-in-law Larry Johnson. She is survived by daughters Rosemary, her husband Andres Garcia, Grace Johnson, three grandchildren and their spouses: Alfonso K. Fillon and Patti Solis, Jennifer Johnson and Michael Latulippe, Mary Johnson and Jukka-Pekka Onnela, and five great grandchildren.
Services will be held in Stockton, California on June 8th and 9th at the De Young Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California Street and the Cathedral of the Annunciation, 400 W. Rose Street, Stockton, CA.
