Mae is survived by sisters-in-law: Janet Louie (Eric) and Myra Fong (Allen), children: Lynnette, Wayland (Machella), Jady, and Brenda, grandchildren: Ashley and Cameron, stepson Bob Lee, and many nieces & nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Shee Chong Siu and Kam Ho Siu and her first husband Samuel Chan and her second husband Robert Lee.
Mae was born on March 10, 1938, in Stockton, CA to parents Shee Chong Siu and Kam Ho Siu. She graduated from Edison High School and then completed 2 years of Stockton College. She was married to Samuel Chan in 1959 until his death in 1979. She then remarried Robert Lee in 1985 until his death in 2009. In 1958, Mae worked at a Stockton bank for two years and then became a full-time homemaker.
Mae and Samuel welcomed four children into their home and they set about teaching them to work hard at school and also to retain their Chinese heritage. Mae and Samuel supported the local Chinese community, donated to scholarships, and attended many cultural celebrations. They also traveled to Oakland, Los Angeles, and Reno often to visit relatives.
Mae and Robert traveled extensively to Asia, Canada, and other parts of the United States. Mae and Robert drove to Los Angeles often to visit Robert’s relatives and Brenda. They also went on several cruises with friends and Mae accompanied Robert on his boat as he fished in the local rivers. Mae and Robert also loved spending time in the Bay Area celebrating their grandchildren’s major milestones.
Her children remember her as a kind and gentle mother who was generous, thoughtful, and considerate. She encouraged them to pursue their goals and loved them unconditionally.
Mae was accomplished at knitting. She often made sweaters and booties for family and friends. Mae also liked musicals and would go with friends to watch the local Stockton productions, the Broadway series in Sacramento, and occasionally San Francisco productions. She was a generous individual who loved treating others and showering them with gifts. She will be greatly missed.
All services will be at De Young Shoreline Chapel, 7676 Shoreline Dr, Stockton, CA. Visitation will be on Friday, September 22, 2023 from 1:30pm – 5:00pm. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00am on Saturday, September 23, 2023 with interment at the Stockton Chinese Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mae’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Jene Wah Inc. or Stockton Chinese Benevolent Association.
