Jim grew up in Việt Năm but spent most of his life in the United States, immigrating in 1981. He moved between California and Texas, until he met his wife, Thúy, and settled in Stockton, CA in 1988. Together, they built a beautiful family, filled with love, food, and lots of laughter.
Jim was a man of many talents and worked varying jobs throughout his life, but his favorite one was raising his children. He took pride in their accomplishments and never missed an award ceremony, concert or graduation. Though he was a man of few words (unless he'd had a beer or two), his love language was food. He would labor over delicious traditional meals as a way to show his appreciation and love for his family. Even after his kids moved out, he would prepare food packages for them to take home or deliver them himself.
Music was a big part of Jim's life. Many times he would blast his Vietnamese music, especially during Christmas or Tết. Often, he could be found singing or humming, usually while he was cooking or gardening. He enjoyed having his friends over for karaoke and was known to be the life of the party. The holidays were more festive because he would spend hours decorating the house with lights - he liked having the brightest house in the neighborhood!
His love of gardening was evident. Anyone who saw his yard knew that he had a green thumb. Every year, he would add more vegetables, fruit trees, and flowers. He liked harvesting his own seeds, and would get excited when his clippings produced roots! He was generous with what he grew and was always eager to share his plants, seeds, and gardening knowledge with friends and family.
He is survived by his wife Thúy Vân Phạm, son Đôn Trần, daughters Diệu Trần, Missy Phạm, Maria Trần, Mary (Anna) Trần, 6 grandchildren, and numerous pets.
Jim will be laid to rest in Việt Năm but we will carry his memory forever in our hearts. We love you and miss you. See you in Heaven. ❤️
