Jim passed on after a brave fight against cancer. He was born in Stockton at St. Joseph’s Hospital and attended Woodrow Wilson Elementary School, Stockton Jr. High, Stagg High School and Stockton/Delta College.
He worked at DeCandia Farms on Lower Jones Tract with his father in his younger days then was hired at PG&E in February, 1963 where he worked for 41 years. He then retired to his small walnut orchard where he added big tractors to his miniature tractor collection.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Bryon Mitchell, and his mother, Bernice Walther Mitchell. He is survived by his wife Carol of 38 years, his daughter Natalie of San Jose, his son Daniel of Denver, Colorado, his son Michael of Stockton, his grandson Matthew of Fort Benning, Georgia, and his sister, Marilyn Petruccio (Ken) of Stockton, and his two dogs, Barnaby and Buddy.
Jim loved to camp, hunt, and fish, especially with his family and close friends. He loved telling and retelling those hunting and fishing experiences. Each time the fish got a little bigger and the fight a little harder. He was a member of the Lodi Elks Club.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 29, 2014, 1 – 5 p.m. at DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California St., Stockton. Funeral Service will be Saturday, August 30th, 10:30 a.m. at DeYoung Memorial Chapel. Committal will be private.
