George is survived by his children, Carmen, Gina, Cletis and Beran; his brothers Eugene Durman Jr., Joseph Jr., Robert and Alan Lane. He is preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice Lane, his biological father Eugene Durman Sr., and his father Joseph Lane of Clear Lake, California.
George was born on July 12, 1937 in Vicksburg, Mississippi to Beatrice Lane and Eugene Durman Sr. His mother moved from Vicksburg, Mississippi and a short time later Beatrice married Joseph Lane in San Francisco, California. His brothers, Joseph, Bob, and Alan, soon followed in birth. George graduated in 1956 from Mission High school. George had a tremendous work ethic and began working as a janitor for San Francisco General Hospital, while also often working a second eight-hour job to support his family. Shortly after leaving his position at General Hospital, he served a 25-year career with the San Francisco Municipal Railway as a motor coach operator, in total he served 44 years for the City and County of San Francisco. Over a 21 year period George and his bride, Gwendolyn, welcomed their 4 children into their home. His children remember him as a kind and patient father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
A celebration of life service will be officiated by his brother, Mr. Robert Lane; Mrs. Toni Stewart will provide the musical selections. Service is scheduled for 11:00 am on January 4, 2020, at DeYoung Shoreline Chapel, 7676 Shoreline Dr., Stockton, California 95219, with a repass to follow.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Karin, Joyce, Verne, children and grandchildren for taking time out of their hectic lives to care for George in his final days. We would also like to thank Optimal Hospice care for their professionalism, thoughtfulness, and kindness.
All are welcome to attend and celebrate George’s life at 8528 Edgefield Way, Stockton, CA 95209.
