Edna was born in Rochester, MN on September 1, 1921. She was the 6th child of Fred and Mamie Blohm, who had a total of 14 children, including two sets of twins. She peacefully passed away on October 16, 2021 at the age of 100.
Edna was a great cook. She enjoyed having family over for holiday dinners, and for a cioppino feast on New Year’s Day. She often made her famous flour tortillas and green chili for everyone. She enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, crafting, going to yard sales and thrift stores, and going to the beach. She did a little of everything. She played the harmonica, sang in a church choir, grew vegetable gardens, helped her husband build houses, advised everyone in cooking and sewing, and in all phases of building and fixing homes, including electrical wiring, plumbing, and patching walls. She was the “go-to Grandma” until the very end for anyone needing advice about a new baby or a sick child, or if someone needed help in deciphering symptoms they were having. She was a very smart, dedicated, hard-working woman who did everything she could to help her friends and family. She enriched all of our lives and will sadly be missed.
Edna’s forever dream was to become a nurse, which was finally fulfilled when, at the age of 42, she enrolled in the nursing program at San Joaquin Delta College. She graduated with honors as an LVN in 1965, and immediately began her new career; working first as a Visiting Nurse, then Hospital Floor Nurse, Emergency Room Nurse, Surgical Nurse, and Phlebotomist.
She was preceded in death by her husband Salomon “Sam” Lucero, son Benito Lucero Sr, grandson Benito Lucero Jr., son-in-law Robert Reyna, siblings Lester, Viola, Alvin, Walter, Benny, Gertie, Wilma, Bob, Roy, Lois and Louie.
Edna is survived by daughters Pat (David) Ayson and Deanna Reyna; grandchildren Laurie (Michael) McGrath, Rob (Sophia) Reyna, and Brandon Reyna; great-grandchildren Melissa, Sarah and Joseph McGrath, Robert Jr and Roman Reyna; sister LaVerne Clark, and brother Ray Blohm. Rest in peace Grammy. We love you.
