David Toy passed away unexpectedly at home on the 26th of January, 2018. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Emiko Toy, and his siblings Hazel Nakashima, Ruth Lowe, and Bill and Thomas Toy. He is survived by his brothers Paul, Art, and Pat, as well as by his son, Barry (Julia), and his daughter, Pamela (Jim) Toy Van Heuit, and his three grandchildren, Andy, Matthew, and Anna.
Born on the 26th of June in 1933, David spent 84 years in his hometown of Stockton. He worked with his brothers at Big Boy Market, and spent the remainder of his career in the food industry, the last ten years of which he was an independent wholesale produce distributor. Retirement only slightly diminished the scale on which David provided people with food; avid fisherman and gardener (he kept his lawn immaculate, and hand-watered it daily) though he was, nothing matched the gusto with which he cooked and baked. He made everything from chocolate chip cookies to Chinese tamales to his special spaghetti sauce, and loved nothing more than watching people enjoy his food.
David took great joy in his many relatives, neighbors and friends, all of whom are welcome to attend his memorial service at 10:00AM on February 10th, at the DeYoung Shoreline Chapel. Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made to The Nature Conservancy (www.nature.org).
