Carmen Gardea died peacefully February 10, 2015 surrounded by her family. She was born on August 17, 1928 in El Paso, TX to the late Santiago and Magdelena Piña. She was the oldest of 11 children. The family moved to Winfield KS before settling in Stockton. She was a factory worker for a number of years at Gulf Red Cedar and later California Cedar, and also a member of Teamsters Local 439. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Andrew Gardea, brothers Salvador and Jim Piña and sisters Rosalie Garcia and Josie Mani. She is survived by her daughter Cathleen Lesher (Gary), and sons Andrew David Gardea (Maris), Ralph Gardea, Thomas Gardea (Jeanne) and Richard Gardea. Carmen was blessed with 9 grandchildren Edward, Michael, Heather, Andrea, Christina, Thomas Jr., Laurel, Jairus and Celeste, Her blessing grew even bigger with 8 great-grandchildren Maddie, Gracie, Savanah, Makaylah, Vienna, Corbin, Eliza and Carlie.
She is also survived by brothers José, John and Ralph Piña and sisters Toni Allyn, Hope Godoy and Maggie Elias and many nieces and nephews.
All services will be held at DeYoung Memorial Chapel 601 N. California St. Stockton CA 95202
Visitation February 17th 2015 at 2:00 PM followed by a rosary at 6:00 PM. Prayer service at DeYoung Memorial Chapel February 18th at 11AM
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Carmen’s memory.
