I was saddened to hear of Tommy's passing. He was always very sweet to me when I was a young girl. He had a big heart and a ready smile for everyone. I was and still am  asked if  I'm related to the Towery boys, especially the firefighter.  Of course I always say, "Yes!"  My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

First met Tommy in 1968 when I was assigned to Fire Station 10, A Shift. He was a great mentor. No one had a greater influence on my career than Tommy. I miss his big heart and quick laugh already. Rest in Peace, my dear friend.

Few knew him as Samuel Thomas Towery II, even his water bill was addressed to Tommy S. Towery. Born November 19, 1934, in Atlanta, Georgia, and raised in the Grant Park area chasing big sister Bunky around, Tommy learned to swim at a young age, which proved useful in both the finding of his first job and the love of his life.
When a prankster pushed Miss Norma Eugenia Martin, a pretty girl in blue shorts who could not swim, into the pool at Clifton Springs, he dove in quickly after her. Little did he know he would be diving into a 56 year long whirlwind romance! They began their life-long journey on September 2, 1953 and are now, finally, reunited for eternity.
Tommy's firefighting tales are legendary among all who knew him. His pizzaz in storytelling and 32 years of experience left him with anecdotes for any situation life might throw at one. But retirement in 1988 did not slow him down. Tommy (or in other circles, T-Bone) continued to work security for Georgia Tech and Zoo Atlanta until 2001.
He was, at heart, an Atlanta man who took full advantage of everyday given to him. He was, at heart, a man who loved his family - his wife, his three children, his nine grandchildren, and his four great-grandchildren. He was, at heart, a man who loved nothing more than seeing other people happy. He will be dearly missed.

Sorry for your loss.  You would not know me but I remember your dad from Roosevelt High School & Confederate Ave. Bapt.

Thomas, hope to see You this evening. I remember the Towery name from a very young age. Maybe He and Dad "Jake" can put out a fire together.

What I remember most about Tommy. I remember coming over to visit and seeing such a happy family. It was obvious that he loved his family dearly and provided well. I remember thinking "my neighbor is a fireman",  and what a fireman he was. I know he will be missed by so many that knew him. I pray that you find peace in knowing he is home.

Oh my gosh what to say about the "infamous" T Bone. He was a kind gentle man with a great sense of humor, a wonderful friend and a pleasure to work with for the many years I was at Dudleys. We lost touch through the years I am sorry to say,but I am sure there are many souls out there that he left an imprint on and will miss him,as will I.
