Roy Edward Ellis, age 92, of Stockbridge, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 14, 2023. He was born on November 14, 1930 in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of Tillie Oliver Ellis and Daisy Bell Edwards Ellis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Wilma N. Bennett Ellis; and a sister, Dorothy Ellis Hines.
After completing high school, Roy joined the United States Army where he served honorably as a radio repairman during the Korean War. After the war, he continued pursuing his education and ultimately obtained a Specialists degree in Education from Georgia State University. He retired from Fulton County, Georgia where he worked as an adult Probation Officer.
Roy was a devoted husband and loving father and Papa. He was a faithful member of Glen Haven Baptist Church for more than 60 years. He loved his church and his Sunday school class, The Crusaders. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Roy leaves behind his children, Deborah (Eddie) White, Robert Ellis, Sharon Ellis Lozynsky, David (Connie) Ellis, and Sandra Ellis Deaton, 10 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren, as well as a brother, T.O. Ellis of St. Augustine, Florida and several extended family members.
A funeral service to honor the life of Roy Ellis will take place on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, beginning at 1:00 at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home - Fairview Chapel 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, GA 30281. Interment with military honors will take place at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge, Georgia following the service. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until service time at the funeral home.
