Tillie was born Matilda Ann Householder on August 15, 1025 in Emporia, VA. She was a twin but her identical twin sister did not survive. She had two older siblings, Nita and John and lived in Emporia until she met and married her sailor boy, Ed. Tillie met Ed when he came home on a weekend pass with her brother, John, who was also a sailor. She and Ed eloped on September 8, 1945. After the war the settled in Jacksonville, Fl. Ed went to work for The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company and Tillie stayed home with their little girl, Ginger. At age 21 with an 18 month old child to care for Tillie discovered she had Breast Cancer. She had surgery and is a 70 year survivor. She and Ed had three more children Mary, Bill and John and now has 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren
Tillie and Ed were married for 56 years. Throughout this time she was a stay at home mom and was active in her church and community. When Ed retired and started The Green Grocer, Tillie travels with him throughout the southeast to trade shows and customers.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 5, 2016, Fairview Memorial Gardens at 11:00am.
