Martin W. Montgomery

Martin Wendell Montgomery was born in the Portsmouth General Hospital at 5:48AM on September 24, 1957 to loving parents John and Geraldine Montgomery.

Martin grew up in Portsmouth and graduated from Manor High School, class of 1975. After graduating, he entered the United States Army. While serving in the Army he moved to the rank of Sergeant and worked as a Machine Communication Equipment Operator. After his Honorable Discharge from the Army, he worked for AT&T as a Network Technician for over 20 years.

Martin was an active and fun loving person. He met and married the love of his life, Melanese Brooks and together they remained happily married, loving and supporting each other. He enjoyed landscaping, boxing and astrology. His favorite thing to do was watch the movies on the Sci-Fi Channel.

Martin Wendell Montgomery peacefully passed away in Atlanta, Georgia at 4:05AM on March 29, 2021. He was preceded in death by his father, John Montgomery; mother, Geraldine Guest Montgomery and siblings, Melvin Montgomery (his twin), Ronnie Montgomery and John Montgomery.

Martin’s life will forever be remembered and cherished by his devoted wife, Melanese Brooks Montgomery; children, Tarajee (Roman) Carlisle of McDonough, Georgia and Lajanda Casey of Lithonia, Georgia; brother, Robert Montgomery of Portsmouth, Virginia; grandchildren, Kaitlin Carlisle, Alayna Carlisle and Dominique Gatson, Jr.; a host of other relatives and family friends.

Visitation for Mr. Martin Wendell Montgomery will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2021 from 4:00PM-7:00PM at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home - Fairview Chapel, 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281 where the Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 2, 2021 at 11:00AM. Interment will immediately follow in Fairview Memorial Gardens.
