Lisa Jan Smith has fought and won many battles. She has shared her thoughts and knowledge. On February 17,1965, a life was brought into the world that brightened the lives of all who would have come to have known her. There are many adventures that we have shared with her in her short time here in this world. At the age of 52, on June 24, 2017, Lisa lost her life from her battle with lung cancer. Although we have lost an important person to all of us, Heaven has gladly opened the gates to this wonderful woman who has left behind a father, Bobby Gene Truitt, a husband, Jerry Douglas Smith, four children, and five grandchildren.
When she married Jerry Douglas Smith on June 12, 1981, I only assume that she never would have thought that the lives she would create, would have ever cared and loved her with every being of their soul and body. Christopher Douglas Smith is the first-born son and oldest who was instilled with respect and honor as she was. He will ensure that his daughters, Gabie and Kayleigh, will have the same respect and compassion as their grandmother. Jerry Clayton Smith is the second son who was given the ability to understand others as she did. His sons, Jerrett and Tristan, will learn and grow into independent young men with their grandmother’s strength within them. Trista Janabelle Henrickson is the first-born daughter who her mother gave the fight for those who cannot, as she often did. Trista will lock away floods of love and humanity for further generations. Last is the daughter, Abby Isabella Bearden, who has the compassion and strength that Lisa had. Her daughter, Josslyn, the youngest grandchild, will grow and love fiercely throughout her life with the memories and knowledge bestowed by her mother. Together the family has formed a bond through the mother who gave each a little piece of herself to.
Never to be forgotten for her fire or her compassion in times of trials and tribulations, not only for her family but friends too. In life, she had many jobs that required total focus but she always had enough time to be sure all the family had enough. From the family trips to the Great Smokey Mountains, her retreats with Friendship Baptist Church, the memories will continue to occupy our thoughts. As on Earth, her garden will continue to grow, in harvest and in love, with her families help. We are looking forward to seeing her again with the mounds of tomatoes, beans, and peppers she would surely have in Heaven. Inspiring all of us, not only to be better people but to have better lives.
