She was born in Atlanta, Georgia on December 27, 1933, to the late Ethel and Howard Stephens. She recently celebrated her 90th birthday and then her 73rd wedding anniversary on December 29, 2023, with her husband Douglas Scott and family. Joan had many passions in her life including floral arranging, cooking, catering, ceramics, stamping, roller skating, running, and bowling. But most important to her was her faith as a Christian and her dedication to family. She was an active member at Stockbridge Presbyterian Church for many years, sang in the choir and worked on numerous committees. Joan was known as “GranMommie” to all her family and was a loving mom to three children, grandmother to eight and great grandmother to six.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Fay Trammell (Paul) and Ann Bonner (Ernest). She is survived by her husband Douglas, daughters Debbie White (David), Karen Blum (David) both of Stockbridge and son Randy Scott (Allison) of Plano, Texas; her grandchildren Christy Sandefer (Ben), Scott Blum (Anna), Andrea Stephenson (Brian), Bridget Phillips, Ryan Blum (Arielle), Kevin Blum, Harrison Scott and Hunter Scott; her great grandchildren Benjamin Sandefer, Andrew Sandefer, Haley Sandefer, Aaron Blum, Sean Stephenson and Conor Stephenson; brother Howard Stephens (Geraldine) along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024, at 1:30 pm in the Chapel at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home, 376 Fairview Road Stockbridge, Georgia with Reverend Kristy Ray officiating. Interment will follow the service at Fairview Memorial Gardens. Although we will miss her greatly, we have faith from John 3:16 (“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”) that there was a big celebration in Heaven upon her arrival. Amen!
