Jean was born to the late Thomas and Marie Sikes on August 9, 1932 in Atlanta, Georgia. She grew up in Kirkwood and attended Murphy High School where she was also a cheerleader. Jean was a devout Christian. She attended Kirkwood Baptist Church until her family relocated to Decatur, at which time she became a member of Rainbow Baptist Church. After graduating from Murphy High, Jean went on to attend college and complete a degree at DeKalb Technical College. She eventually began a career with DeKalb County Schools as a bus driver and retired after many years of service. Jean was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a loving person who gave of her time and talents to everyone, from the church, her family, the school system, and even as a volunteer at Atlanta’s 1996 Olympic Games. Jean was a beautiful spirit who will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jefferson Sikes, Sr., Jean was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas J. Sikes, Jr.
She is survived by two children, Janet Williams and Robert Davis; two grandchildren, Brian Jordan and Chris Williams; two great grandchildren and welcoming a third very soon; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
A visitation of family and friends will be held for Jean on Saturday, April 2, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home - Fairview Chapel | 376 Fairview Road Stockbridge, Georgia 30281. A celebration of life will immediately follow in Ward's Chapel. Services will conclude with a graveside committal at Fairview Memorial Gardens | 164 Fairview Road Stockbridge, Georgia 30281.
