Idona Anne Hendrickson, affectionately known as “Apple,” was born July 23, 1931, to the late Prince and Melvina Babb in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, WI. She was the fifth of sixth children and enjoyed netball, track and soccer growing up.
She met and married the late Albert Hendrickson. This union produced six children. Idona worked as a clerk at Merrill Lynch for several years. She then went on to work for over twenty-one years with the NYC Health & Hospitals Corporation at the Kings County Hospital Center in the WIC Department. Following this position, she enjoyed a sweet retirement.
Idona accepted Christ as her Savior at a youthful age and was baptized into the Seventh-day Adventist Church. After migrating to the United States of America, she recommitted her life and was rebaptized into the Brooklyn Temple SDA fellowship. Idona later transferred to Dunamis SDA Church and served in the Community Service Department, Nursing Home Ministry, Prayer Band and Street Ministry. She also loved to sing and sang many solos during various worship services. Her dedication and faithfulness continued even after she relocated to Georgia. After connecting to the Mountainside SDA Church, she served in the Community Service and Prayer Ministries.
Idona loved to shop and travel, enjoying Europe and the Caribbean especially. She frequently prepared her favorite Island treats -- sweetbread, pone, sorrel and sea moss. She was an avid sports fan, supporting not only all the NYC professional teams, but Brooklyn Temple’s sports teams as well, especially the Basketball Teams. She was always present to cheer them on to their victories. She also enjoyed working on puzzles, which she did extensively during her later years.
On November 15, 2023, Idona passed peacefully in her sleep, at home. It was a special answer to her prayer for that moment to occur at home. She leaves to mourn five of her children -- daughters: Maureen Hendrickson-Griffith (Eddie) (USA), Marilyn Hendrickson (USA) and Monica Hendrickson (USA); her two sons: Marlon Hendrickson (Vonda) (USA) and Maurice Hendrickson (Gina) (USA); her sister Mrs. Celita Alexis (USA); three grandchildren Briana Davis (Jeremy), Alisha Bettis (Christopher) and Ashlea Hendrickson; two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Peyton Davis; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Her oldest son, Andre Hendrickson, preceded her in death. (May they meet again when the trumpet sounds.)

Hendrickson will be held on Monday, November 27, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Decatur Mountainside Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 3936 Rainbow Drive, Decatur, Georgia 30034, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM.
