Our beloved Dorothy Jean Peter was born in Pensacola, Florida on January 8, 1958 to the late Jennie Mae and Joseph Russell. She leaves behind an abundance of love for her three children: Sharit “Cedric” Russell, Ronnie (Angie) Etienne , and Gwendolyn Etienne (William Acree), a host of grandchildren, four siblings: Lesa (James) America, Sharon Russell, Eugene Autrey, Wilbert Autrey, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and special friends. She transitioned into her eternal life on May 20, 2022 at the age of 64 after a brief illness.
Dorothy was the oldest of her siblings. Her childhood was a time of learning and shaped her into the wise and caring woman she would become. She attended Escambia County Training High School in Atmore, Alabama where she excelled and was popular amongst her peers.
She moved to Boston, Massachusetts where she married Rony Etienne and grew her family. She pursued a career in caregiving and nursing and worked at Carney Hospital in Dorchester, Massachusetts for over 15 years.
Dorothy met her late husband, Hilton Peter and they relocated to Atmore, Alabama in 1996. There, she worked for Escambia County School System as a substitute teacher until 2001. In 2014 Dorothy and Hilton Peter moved to Georgia where she joined Saint Paul AME Worship Center. She was a lively worshipper and served faithfully in the Women's Choir, "The Pearls", and the Usher Board.
Dorothy was a people person. She never met a stranger. Many looked to her for advice and comfort in their times of need. During her spare time she enjoyed traveling, going to the casinos, watching movies, social gatherings, seafood and Chinese restaurants.
"Goodbyes are not forever. Goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean I'll miss you until we meet again".
