Dorothy Louise Wilson Helton, age 88 of Stockbridge, GA passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents, Forestine Pearl Flock and James Edward Wilson, her husband, John “Marvin” Helton, Sr., her grandsons, Larry “Bubba” West and John M. Helton, III and her son-in-law, Jeff W. Kaminski, Sr. Louise is survived by her five children, Sheila L. Brussell (husband John), John M. Helton, Jr. (wife Sandra), David “Chris” Helton (wife Linda), Deborah M. Helton, and Stephanie K. Norton (husband Joe). She had 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Helen Copelan, her 5 brothers: James “Buddy” Wilson, Terry Johnson, Dee Johnson, George Wilson and Clarence Wilson, her Aunt, Lottie Wilson, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Louise was born in Birmingham, AL on October 7, 1927 and moved to Atlanta soon after that. On April 20, 1946, she married the love of her life, Marvin Helton, in Rex, GA. They were married 69 years until his passing on October 26, 2015. Louise was a dedicated military wife and mother. She loved to spend time with her family and travel and was very creative with arts and crafts and painting. She was also a cancer survivor; she beat cancer multiple times.
Louise and Marvin were members of the First Baptist Church of McDonough. Louise was a also a member of the Eastern Star and for several years was a volunteer counselor at the Rape Crisis Center. During her time in South Florida, she worked and volunteered at the Sunland Training Center, a facility for children and adults with developmental disabilities.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association. Services will be held at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home on Fairview Road in Stockbridge, Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 11 am. Family will receive friends Tuesday, June 28, 2016 from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
