Mrs. McConnell (nee Hedrick) used her gifted singing voice to minister to people throughout her life. Though classically trained, she enjoyed the studio jobs with Red Foley and many popular bands of that era. Her heart for the underdog led her to sing in Federal prisons and nursing homes, giving an unabridged performance complete with her formal gowns. It was all about the light in people’s faces. As a life-long Republican, Sue worked tirelessly for local candidates to presidents. She was a delegate to national conventions and held a presidential appointment under the Reagan administration. She worked as a liaison for foreign diplomats and small businesses. Sue had a big heart, quick wit and loved her family above all. As a believer in Jesus Christ, she is no doubt in the Arms of her Savior this day. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Larry McConnell, and is survived by her children: Kevin McConnell (Nancy), Kelly Shoemaker, Kay Allbritton (Robin) and her grandchildren Samantha Allbritton, Clayson Shoemaker, Regainia Shoemaker-Greene, Tyler Allbritton, Betsy Allbritton-Bayard, Rebecca Shoemaker, Jami McConnell, Megan McConnell and great-grandchildren.
