Cheryl B. Ellis, age 71 of Stockbridge, GA passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, March 11, 2019 after a short battle with liver cancer. She was surrounded by people who love and respect her. She was born to the late George and Bernice Biggers in Columbus, GA on May 19, 1947.
The highly competent doctors at Emory Healthcare in Decatur, GA diagnosed her with liver cancer although she did not smoke or drink. Unfortunately, she was too weak to accept any sort of treatments and the doctors at The Winship Cancer Institute gave her a short time to live. She was strong willed in both mind and body and she wanted treatment but the pain from the cancer took her ability to walk and doctors at Winship told her that she needed to be strong enough to walk before they could treat the cancer.
In life, Cheryl was a Homemaker who raised two beautiful children in a home she had lived in for forty years. She truly had a talent for cooking and baking and that will be truly missed. She also enjoyed gardening. She had a beautiful yard full of all types of flowers, plants and trees.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband; Lionel “L.G.” Ellis, to whom she was a faithful companion and wife to for nearly fifty years at the time of his passing.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son; Glenn Ellis of Forest Park, GA, her daughter; Julia Grace Ellis of Stockbridge, GA, Troy Churchill, whom Cheryl considered to be a son-in-law, of Stockbridge, GA, and her sister; Barbara Biggers, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Family and friends will be received for a visitation on Sunday, March 17, 2019 from 12 PM to 2 PM at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home located at 376 Fairview Rd in Stockbridge, GA. A graveside service will immediately follow the visitation at 2 PM at Fairview Memorial Gardens which is located next to the funeral home.
