Carrie was the fourth child born out of 23 siblings; she grew up in Martin Station, Alabama and was educated in schools located in Alabama.
She later met and married her late husband Mose Davis Jr. while living in Birmingham, Alabama. While there, they had three children [Carrie E., Mose III, Dwight (Ron)]. Shortly after her husband returned home from serving in the military (Army), they transitioned their family to Detroit, Michigan and later had their fourth child, [Michael].
Carrie was baptized in Detroit at Ford Avenue Church of Christ, which became Linwood Church of Christ. She later joined Metro Church of Christ. Carrie was an active, dedicated, and faithful member. She sang in the church choir and was head of the usher board were she served for many years well into her senior years; she also often visited the sick and shut-in. Carrie was dearly loved by her church members and was referred to as “The Mother of Metro” and received a number of awards and accolades for her service.
Carrie was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She loved her family dearly and welcomed all who entered her home. Holidays were always a special and exciting time for her because, it was a time she could spend and share the moment with loved ones. The love she had in her heart was so enormous that people would gravitate to her and wanted to be around her caring, compassionate and generous spirit. She was kind hearted to all and never met a stranger that didn’t feel that from her.
Carrie worked in the restaurant business and retired from Colonnade Cafeteria. While employed there, she met many city officials and other patrons who adored her. She also worked for many years on The Detroit City Election Commission and received an honorary certificate for her years of dedicated service there.
She loved to travel with family and friends and made it a point to do so frequently during her vibrant years. After retirement, she moved to Leesburg, Virginia to live with her daughter (Carrie) and son-n-law (Ed) and later relocated to Georgia.
Carrie was preceded in death by her husband (Mose Davis Jr.), two sons (Mose Davis III, & Michael Davis).
Carrie accomplished many things in her life, but none could surpass her devotion to family and friends. She opened her home to many for long-term and short-term stays including several family and church members.
She leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy: one daughter Carrie (Edward) Neal, one son Dwight (Vickie) Davis, fifteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, six sisters, six brothers, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and an abundance of friends.
There are so many reasons why so many loved her, but the one reason that everyone shares is that she was a woman of constant and consistent prayer. She lived by Proverbs 3: 5-6 verse “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths”.
The Lord most certainly directed her path and she was blessed to knowing her labor was not in vain.
