Carlton started working at Colonial Bread Company at an early age. He retired in 1991.
Carlton was preceded in death by his wife, Marion Ertzburger, his parents, sisters, and brothers. He is survived by his wife, Sally Clupper Smith; his daughter Jill Cooper; two grandchildren, Katie and Brian Cooper; two step-children, Michelle Burdett (Tim) and Marvin Clupper (Teena); two sisters, Ellen Duncan and Dot Spencer; one brother, W.R. Smith (Velma); two sisters-in-law, Judy and Joyce Smith; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at 1:00PM in Fairview Memorial Gardens, 164 Fairview Road Stockbridge, GA. Rev. Betsy Turner and Tim Burdett, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Carlton to Stockbridge Presbyterian Church, 4740 N. Henry Blvd. Stockbridge, GA 30281.
