He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on January 2, 1959. He is the son of the late James Melvin Dukes and the late Rosie Lee Ross. He was the tenth of thirteen children.
Bruce served his country and entered into the United States Army in Colorado Springs, Colorado on December 3, 1976. He was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and his primary specialty was a quarryman.
Bruce was honorably discharged on November 28, 1982.
Living his life as a social butterfly, Bruce had a one of kind vibe! Making friends was very easy and he befriended anyone with a heart.
He loved to be the life of the party, entertaining his guests and peers with his electrifying dance moves and witty jokes!
Making music was Bruce's greatest joy, enabling him to share his message with the world. He also enjoyed watching sports and fell in love with the Kansas City Chiefs! Also, one of his favorite hobbies was playing chess!
Full of life and a unique sense of love and freedom, Bruce lived his life to the fullest. He had a heart of gold. His will to live in righteousness was unwavering. Being a very spiritual man, he spent his life fighting demons; staying optimistic, no matter what the outcome. He was a true warrior!
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosie Riggins; father, James Dukes and siblings, John Boyland, Arsenia McKinney Heart, Cordelia Boyland, and Valerie Shelton.
Bruce's life will forever be remembered and cherished by his five children, Bruce Edward Riggins, Jr. of Topeka, Kansas, Batina Riggins of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Brian Riggins of Topeka, Kansas, DeKoven Riggins (Keitra) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Keshia McDaniel of Lawrence, Michigan; nine brothers and sisters, Dennis Carroll (Anita) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Velore Harrell (Thomas) of Decatur, Georgia, Phyllis Thomas (Leroy) of Gutherie, Oklahoma, Melvin Shelton of Atlanta, Georgia, Sharon Taylor (Carl) of Covington, Georgia, Teresa Starks of Riverdale, California, Curtis Riggins (Sandra) of Durham, North Carolina, Tammie Metts (Michael) of Dublin, Georgia and Kenneth Riggins (Sheryl) of McDonough, Georgia; thirteen grandchildren, Bruce Riggins, III, Bryce Riggins, Estella Riggins, Alejandra Riggins, Jamari Harper, Jeremiah Harper, Josiah Harper, Lael Riggins, Brielle Riggins, Dekoven Riggins, Jr., Brian Riggins, Jr. and Bryson Riggins; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and family friends.
A visitation for Bruce will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 9:00 AM-12:00 Noon at Horis A. Ward - Fairview Chapel, 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 Noon.
