Ansley “Ellis” Knight, 83 of Jonesboro, Ga, went to be with the Lord on January 7, 2016 after a short battle with cancer. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him throughout his life. He lead by example and taught his children that your handshake was your word. Ellis was a charitable man donating his time and money to several organizations.
Ellis was born to the late Joel Everrett and Gladys Maxine (Howard) Knight of McDonough, Ga on December 20, 1932. He was a Navy veteran serving his country during the Korean War. He retired from Fort Gillem as a civil and electrical engineer in October 1990.
Ellis is survived by his children Debbie, Roger and Wanda; step-children Roxanne and Duane; sister, Roslyn VanLeeuwen and spouse Paul and sister-in-law, Elsie Burgess Knight, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ellis was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean (Compton) Knight, brother Howard Knight and step-son, Tony Bateman.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home - Fairview Chapel at 2pm, with Joseph Mauthe officiating.
