Lawrence Charles Kveton (Larry) 71, of Cicero passed away on October 13, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Barbara (nee Chervinko) Kveton. He is lovingly survived by his only brother, Alan J (Al) (Linda) Kveton; and nephews Alan C. (Niesa) Kveton and John Kveton; and many dear cousins and friends.
A graduate of J.S. Morton East High School Class of 1971, Larry went on to attend and graduate from Morton College in Cicero.
After a few years at Continental Bank, where he met lifelong friends and worked in an area without windows, he went on to a 30 year career predominantly outdoors as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service, ending his service in his hometown of Cicero. He often spoke about routinely walking over 35,000 steps/day, occasionally totaling a million steps in a month. He was loved by many of his postal customers who always appreciated Larry’s diligence in delivering their mail with care and always on schedule.
While most knew Larry as a focused worker bee, he also had an adventurous side. A favorite pastime of his was to tour Major League baseball and football stadiums. He took delight in collecting t-shirts or baseball hats from each location. He enjoyed other sports as well, attending many games of the Final Four basketball tournaments and inaugural games of fledgling teams. He also visited several Halls of Fame for various sports. While visiting these locations took him far and wide across the United States, his travels also took him to locations across Europe and Australia.
Although Larry could be very quiet, he was one of the kindest and most generous people you could meet. His smile was always genuinely warm and caring. He always had something nice to say. When gathered with family or friends, he loved to share a funny video or odd stories he had found on the Internet or in newspapers.
He was loved by many and will be sadly missed by his family, his customers, and his many close friends, including the work family he met through his time with the post office.
We'd like to offer special thanks to his caregivers for their endless support and care throughout the past 12 months of surgeries and recovery. We are grateful to those in the medical and rehab field that gave special attention to giving him every chance to succeed
A memorial service for Larry will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mount Auburn Funeral Home, 4101 South Oak Park Avenue, Stickney, Illinois 60402.
