

Edward Aloysious Zavislak (age 97), passed away February 26th, 2015 in Maywood, Illinois at Loyola Hospital at 6:04 P.M. Edward was born in Cicero, Illinois on February 03, 1918 to Frank & Josephine (Lis) Zavislak. He is a widower who was married to his loving and faithful wife Victoria Rose Marie (Price) of Cloquet, Minnesota for over 62 years. He is survived by son John E. Zavislak; grandchildren Misti & Edward Hlavacek, Nicole Kunesh, Michael, Sandra, Kristin, Alyssa, Jaclyn & Valerie Zavislak and Bryan Avis; great grandchildren David III & Nickolas Kunesh, Andrew Bikoma and Isaac Zavislak and great great grandchild David Kunesh IV; two sisters Carrie Johnson and Betty McMahon; one brother Stanley (Mary Ann) Zachary as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. His other son Patrick C. Avis passed away in 2011 at the age of 66.
Edward was a graduate from Loyola University. He worked as a teacher and at the Sanitary District, but he was best known as a master electrician. He was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for over 65 years. His wife was a registered nurse who worked at the Stickney clinic for over 25 years until her retirement in 1981. He and his late wife were members of St. Pius Church as well as Stickney Township for over 60 years.
Before his life with Victoria, Edward was the treasurer of Keotas Social & Athletic Club. Throughout the 1960's, he owned a hardware store and later managed a travel agency during the 1970's. He also ran for village trustee and clerk in local elections. He and his wife traveled the world together. Zavislak was a World War II veteran who built his own house in 1951 for six generations which he lived in until his passing. He was also a brilliant inventor who created many toys for his grandchildren throughout his lifetime. His most cherished possession remained his stamp collection.
Visitation will be held this Friday, March 6th, 2015 at Mount Auburn Funeral Home located at 4101 South Oak Park Avenue in Stickney, Illinois from 2:00 - 8:00 PM. Services will be held on Saturday, March 7th, 2015 at the funeral home with chapel prayers at 9:15 AM followed by an 11:00 AM mass at St. Pius X Church located at 4314 South Oak Park Avenue.
