Alvie was born in Rocky Creek, Mississippi on November 22nd, 1939 to his parents Edgar and Agnes [nee Dement] Shepherd who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jonnie Shepherd, his children, Alvita Shepherd, Billy Green, Alvie Shepherd Jr., David Shepherd, and Richard Shepherd, grandchildren, Savannah, Braven, Kingston, Ian, Kyle and Shaun Shepherd, Antonio Strong, Angelina and Joseph Green, and his sisters, Jeanie (Finny) Cox and Thelma Havard.
Alvie bravely defended our country in the U.S. Navy. He spent much of his life working hard as a machinist at a steel mill. In his free time Alvie loved sports, especially football and baseball which he provided coaching on for different teams. He helped out at the Proviso West High School and the Memorial Park District with his sports knowledge. He also loved bowling and fishing to relax. Alvie was also known for being an avid dancer who’d pull anyone onto the floor to join him in the fun.
A visitation will be held in his memory on March 27th starting at 4pm till 8pm. A funeral service will take place the next morning Sunday, March 28th at 11am. Both services will be held at Mount Auburn Funeral Home (4101 S Oak Park Ave, Stickney, IL 60402.) A burial will take place at Mount Auburn Cemetery at 1pm.
