Obituary of Mary Patricia (Patsy) Webb
Patsy Webb was born to Maisey and James O’Flanagan on March 9, 1921, in Tipperary, Ireland. She was raised in Tipperary for her early years. As with many children she attended a convent school. In her adolescence her family moved to London, England. While in England Patsy attended a Catholic convent boarding school, where she formed her active and robust personality, which would serve her well in the future. During her teenage years Patsy attended a finishing school in France, where she was also a governess for the family she lived. In 1939 when World War II started Patsy was caught trapped in France unable to return to England. The family she was staying with was able to escape to Switzerland shortly before the Germans closed the borders. While in the war years Patsy met her future husband, Frank Webb, a US Army Air Force crew member whose damaged aircraft crash landed in Switzerland. In 1946 Patsy emigrated to the United States to marry Frank in Des Moines Iowa. From this point Patsy’s life changed directions. She and Frank lived in many locations throughout the Midwest moving frequently as Frank gained experience as a pilot. During the time they lived in Cheyenne Wyoming, her first son, Patrick was born. Better opportunities called Patsy and Frank back to Iowa in the early 50s, their second son, Michael was born while they lived in Spencer Iowa. The family continued to move to different farm communities while Frank was building his background in aviation. In 1958 the farm town life ended after Frank was able to reach his goal as an aviation inspector in the Federal Aviation Administration. The repeated moving did not end. Frank’s first location was St. Louis, Missouri. This is where Patsy’s daughter, Noreen joined the family. After living in St. Louis for two years, the family moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan for only six months then to Ann Arbor, Michigan so that Frank could work at the FAA Detroit office. Life in Ann Arbor was many of the best years for the Webb family. In 1964 to advance within Franks career the family moved to Kansas City, Kansas. The moving life slowed once in Kansas City. Patsy was able to settle in and focused on raising her children and exploring her own creative talents. In the Seventies there was another move back to Des Moines Iowa for three years, then back to Kansas City. This was the time that with the children grown, Patsy expanded her life with a job in a travel agency. Her gregarious personality proved to be an asset with customers and the office. She and Frank retired in Kansas City, Kansas. In 2011 Frank passed away, Patsy stayed in Kansas until 2021 when she relocated to Staunton, Virginia to live with her son, Patrick Webb. She enjoyed life in Staunton and getting to see the Shenandoah Valley countryside. Patsy is survived by her daughter Noreen, two sons, Patrick and Mike, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at St. Frances of Assisi Catholic Church, 118 N. New St., Staunton, Virginia. There will also be services in Kansas City. A visitation will be held at St Pius X Catholic Church, 5500 Woodson, Road, in Mission Kansas from 9:30 to 10:00 am on December 9 and a funeral mass at 10:00 am.
