Emily Abilene Simmons

She was born July 16, 1949, a daughter of the late Earl Gilliam and Rachael Abilene (Anderson) Coiner.

She was a member of Linden Heights Baptist Church in Staunton.

Emily received her associate degree in nursing where she received a perfect score on her state board examination becoming a Registered Nurse.

Emily was a former employee of VSDB, Kings Daughters Hospital and retired from Western State Hospital.

She was a great cook, excelled in genealogy, both personal and other family members.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three sisters, Brenda Sly, Yvonne Coiner and Mary Kristin Coiner.

Survivors include her husband, Carl E. Simmons; daughters, Carla Simmons-Wulin and husband,

Eddie of Staunton, Charlotte Simmons of Staunton; sons, Sean Simmons of Staunton, Eric Simmons of Fishersville; grandchildren, Ian N. Simmons, Laurel Simmons, Zane Simmons of Harrisonburg; Robyn Dean, mother of Laurel and Zane, who was a special daughter-in-law; sister, Debra Moore of Staunton; brother, E. G. Coiner of Staunton.

Following cremation, a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at Linden Heights Baptist Church, 371 Linden Dr., Staunton, Va. with Pastor Luke Smith officiating.

The Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes has been entrusted with arrangements.
