Bess (Broaddus) Herndon

Bess Millicent (Broaddus) Herndon, 99, of Staunton, passed away on Sunday November 20, 2022 at her residence. Mrs. Herndon was born on October 20, 1923 in Huntington, WV and was a daughter of the late John Albert and Ada Louise (Wilcoxen) Broaddus. She worked for the United States Air Force at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida as a secretary for many years prior to her retirement. Bess loved to sew, knit, read, and most of all, spend time with her family. She was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church in Staunton. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband William Rufus Herndon. Mrs. Herndon is survived by her daughter, Virginia Dianne Doerr and husband Daniel of Staunton; grandchildren, Bryan Joseph Dobozy and wife Tanya Ray and their three children, Heather Michelle Reeder and husband Simon and their three children, Eric Michael Doerr and wife Jessica and their son and Elizabeth Katherine Doerr. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Herndon was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Ann Dobozy; and a sister, Virginia Temple Ray. Her body was cremated, and services will be held at a later date at Florida Memorial Gardens.
