Vera was born on November 10, 1924 in Rowan County, and she was the daughter to the late George and Mabel Campbell Dean. She enjoyed dancing and trips to the beach and mountains.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, J. C. “Jake” McCoy; sons, Gary D. and Danny C. McCoy; son-in-law, Jim Smith; brothers, Harry, Lonnie, Floyd and Clyde Dean and sisters, Addie McDaniel, Bertie Kluttz, Helen Bringle, Betty and Nancy Dean.
Left to cherish her loving memory is her daughter, Betty Smith; daughter-in-law, Miriam McCoy; grandchildren, Andrea (Mark) Josey, Jennifer (Will) Speaks and Jessica (Thomas) Baker; great-grandchildren, Andrew (Alex) Hall, Jake, Bailey and Carson Speaks, Peyton and Corley Baker; great-great-granddaughter, Adaline Hall; step-great-grandchildren, Troy (Stephanie) Josey and Sarah Jones; five step-great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Joe (Louise), Steve and Wayne Dean; sisters, Faye Ellenburg and Kathy Cesario; sister-in-law, Cleo McCoy and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 12pm at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 10:45 – 11:45 am at the church prior to the service and any other times at Vera’s residence.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Chapel Hill United Methodist or Iredell County Hospice and Palliative Care.
