Shirley Ann Carson Smith

Shirley Ann Carson Smith, 85, died on October 23, 2022 at Autumn Care of Statesville. A native of Iredell County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Snood and Betty Patterson Carson. She retired from Belks and also worked as a Social Worker and as a Teacher’s Aide. She graduated from Unity School and also graduated from Mitchell Community College, and also attended Livingstone College. She was baptized at Mt. Pleasant Church and was a member of St. John’s Baptist Church.

Some of Shirley's favorite things were flowers, gardening, spending time with her grandchildren and listening to R & B music.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of 62 years, Franklin Lonnie Smith; by a son, Gary Dale Carson (Sandra) of Statesville; by a stepson, Antonio Long of Statesville; by her daughters, Lon-Yetta Smith of Statesville and Kristi Nande, also of Statesville. Her brother, Thadd Carson of Harmony and her sister, Neelie Levy (John) of Maryland, also survive her. Grandchildren, Angela Stevenson of Statesville; Pebbles Carson of Florida; Gary Carson, Jr. of Hickory; Deon Sharpe of Statesville; and Dimia Smith of Hickory and Great-Grandchildren; Finesse Smith of Hickory; Christie, Christian, and Cameron Hallman of Mocksville and a host of nieces and nephews also survive her.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 29, 2022 from 11 am until 12 Noon at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home in Statesville. A funeral service officiated by Alvin Hayes will follow the visitation at 12 Noon in the Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Belmont Cemetery.
