She was born October 14, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, and was the daughter of the late John Leroy Reavis and Etta Rowe Reavis Tayes. She graduated from Scotts High School and was of the Baptist faith. In 1982, she retired from Southern Bell after 33 years of services and was a member the Telephone Pioneers. She enjoyed traveling the U.S. with her husband since retiring and was a loving wife, mother, and friend.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Gus Tayes; son-in-law, Ronald Eugene Alexander; a grandson, Aaron Lyle Morrow; and a sister, Mary Lou Shumaker.
Shirley was survived by her husband, Harold Hugh “Pete” Morrow, whom she married on October 12, 1951; a daughter, Susan Morrow Alexander; a son, Jeffrey Morrow (Tamara); two grandchildren, Ross Alexander and Kayla Morrow, all of Statesville; and four nieces and nephews, Frankie Ramseyer, Nancy Edmondson (Larry), Patty Hartzog (Ronald), and Tommy Shumaker, all of Lexington.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at Iredell Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Charles Morrow officiating.
The family will speak with friends at the cemetery immediately following the service.
