She was born January 19, 1943, in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late Rev. James Coyte York and Claudia Wilkins Tallman. She retired from Thomasville Upholstery and was a member of Beulah Heights Wesleyan Church where she enjoyed singing with her daughter, Tammy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death on December 18, 2012, by her husband, Joe W. Mullis, Sr., whom she married on April 8, 1972; a daughter, Tammy Whitaker; a sister, Crystal L. York; a brother, David York; and a step-daughter, Kathy Jo Tucker.
She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia (Steve) Winterfeldt of Ninety-Six, SC, and Christa B. Mullis of Statesville; a son, Bric (Joann) Mullis of Statesville; two step-sons, Joe (Cindy) Mullis, Jr. of Lake Wylie, SC, and Michael (Patty) Mullis of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Ashley W. (Timmy) Dodson of Mocksville, Jarred Wood of Winston-Salem, and Kenneth Winterfeldt of Ninety-Six, SC; a great-grandson, Kaleb Dodson of Mocksville; two sisters, Kathy (Lexyie) Pope of Statesville and Tressie J. York of Kannapolis; a brother, John Mark (Shannon) York of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service celebrating Shirlene’s life will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at Beulah Heights Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Trent Patterson and the Rev. Bill Pharr officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:00 PM Wednesday at the church prior to the service.
