Sarah Anne was born May 6, 1941, in Long Island, North Carolina, to Hugh and Zula Lytton who preceded her in death along with the following siblings: Nancy, Jean, Caleb, Hugh, and Wes Lytton. Sarah Anne leaves behind her brother and sisters Benny and his wife Linda, Patsy Koutsogeorgas and her husband George, Libby Long and her husband Nevin. Sarah leaves behind several nieces and nephews and their children. Sarah also leaves behind her children John (Beth), Mac, Annie, Stephanie (Chuck), and Suzanne. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, Lauren, Joe, Katie, Jake, Drake, Jackson, Jarod, Johnny, McClain, William, and Sadie; and 6 great-grandchildren, Noah, Max, Felicity, Ezra, Miriam, and Kye.
Sarah Anne was incredibly involved in her community and was an invaluable member of society since she was very young. Sarah Anne was loved by many, celebrated by those close to her in her community and beyond as shown in her beauty pageant wins and her titles such as Ms. Bandys High School Homecoming Queen, Miss Statesville, (Ms. North Carolina (runner up), Most Beautiful (Appalachian State), and Ms. Appalachian State. Not only was Sarah Anne a beauty queen she was also incredibly smart and known for her implausible academic achievements.
Sarah Anne had accomplished so many things in life. She was an education major at Appalachian State. She was a woman’s athletic coach and mathematics instructor and spent her educational career with Fairfax County Schools (VA). In addition to the above, she was a gymnastics, field hockey, basketball coach and assisted with so many more sport and academic events. In addition to her teaching career, she then went on to lead many local and national political endeavors, which included Northern Virginia politics to National Presidential politics.
Sarah Anne lived a long and loving life and the last 28 were lived with the love of her life, Fred. The last five years she was on this earth were lived with the memories of their love. Now they reside in eternal piece next to each together.
Our mother’s funeral will be held at Olivet Baptist Church, Catawba, NC, Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 1pm with Rev. Matt Rummage officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will gather and receive friends from 11am - 1pm at the church prior to the service.
