Samuel Columbus McCrary, Jr. 83, 233 Island Ford Road, died Saturday at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory. He was born August 14, 1928 in Iredell County, son of the late Samuel Columbus McCrary, Sr. and Carrie McGlamery McCrary. He served in the U. S. Navy and was employed by Celanese and Paliser Furniture. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Buford McCrary, three sons; Bobby Saunders of Winston-Salem, Mack Saunders of High Point, Mark McCrary of Conover and daughter Susan Gayle of VA, siblings surviving are John McCrary and Betty Ruth Pope both of Statesville and Wilma Jean Austin of Burnsville. Two grandchildren; Samantha Harris and Ellis Gayle also survive, as well as two great-grandchildren.
Services celebrating Mr. McCrary’s life are scheduled for Tuesday (today) at 2 p.m. in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Roseman officiating. Burial will follow at a later date. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
