OLIN- Roy L. ("Cotton") Baldwin, 65, went home to be with the Lord on November 3, 2016.
Born February 5, 1951 in Ashe County, North Carolina he was the son of the late Thomas and Zola Howell Baldwin. Roy worked for the past 30 years as a dedicated driver for Tyson Foods. Along with being a loving husband and father, he was a dedicated provider for his family. He cherished being "Papaw" to his six grandsons. He also loved serving the Lord first and foremost and helping anyone in need. He served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher while at Fairview Baptist Church. He loved playing softball, coaching his sons' baseball teams and made many life-time friends. Roy was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, especially with his grandsons and special friend Gary Mitchell. Roy proudly served in the US Army, having been stationed in Seoul, South Korea from 1971 - 1972.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Elizabeth Ann; brother, Kenneth Baldwin and wife Eva; nephew, Clay Baldwin; niece, Crystal Baldwin and brother-in-law, Eugene Gaither.
Left to cherish his memory is the love of his life, Patricia Hepler Baldwin, whom he married on December 9, 1972. He is also survived by his sons, Steven (Heather) Baldwin, Richard (Stacy) Baldwin and Matthew (Amanda) Baldwin; grandchildren, Alec, Ryan, Luke, Hunter, Kole and Bryson Baldwin; brothers, Darrell (Lois) and Buddy (Pat) Baldwin; sister, Peggy Gaither and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom were very dear to him.
A Celebration of Roy's life will be held Sunday, November 6, at 3:30 P.M. at Fairview Baptist Church with Pastors Scott Eanes, Paul Hill and Jesse Stroud officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 3:30 P.M. at the church prior to the celebration.
Pallbearers will be Dean Hepler, Cale Hepler, Gary Mitchell, Ronnie Williams, Alec Baldwin and Brett Baldwin. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kenny Smith, Mike Carson and the Jack Setzer Sunday school class.
