

He was born in Catawba County, Sept. 23, 1929, to the late J.N. and Susan Beatty Sherrill. Riley attended Cool Spring School and served in the US Air Force. He married Barbara Jenkins on August 12, 1950 and they had over 62 years of marriage before her passing in 2013.
Riley worked for United Merchants and Manufacturers, and Jack Wooten trucking. He was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack Sherrill and Joe Sherrill; and sister-in-law, Pat Sherrill.
Mr. Sherrill is survived by two daughters; Teresa S. James (Mark), Janine S. Owens (Rodney) of Statesville, three grandchildren; Christen J. Crouch (Brandon) of Statesville, Whitney J. Frye (Jason) of Stanley and BJ Owens of Winston-Salem. He is survived by two siblings; Bill R. Sherrill (Norma Jean) and Mariam S. Pardue (Bill); and sister-in-law Evelyn C. Sherrill all of Statesville.
The family will visit with friends 6:30 - 8 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 1, at Bunch Johnson Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mr. Sherrill will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 2, at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 109 Chapel Hill Lane, Statesville, with the Rev. Greg Dickens officiating. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
