Born in Iredell County on February 21, 1935, he was the son of the late Sam Jones and Virginia Gaither Jones.
Mr. Jones served in the United States Army from 1958-1960. He owned and operated Jones Grocery Store, where he made many life-long friends throughout the years. He was also a cattle farmer and a life-long member of Clarksbury United Methodist Church.
Parks loved spending time with his family; watching his grandchildren play sports; going to cattle sales; playing baseball and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Jordan Jurney.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 57 years, Louann Church Jones of the home; his five daughters, Jennifer White (Dr. Andy White) of Statesville, Malinda Smith (Jimmy Smith) of Harmony, Karen Johnson (Mark Johnson) of Statesville, Sue Jurney (Brigadier General William Jurney) of Suffolk, VA and Rhoda Redmond (Todd Redmond) of Statesville; seven grandchildren, Meredith Collins (Andrew Collins), Zack Smith (Krystle Smith), Ethan Johnson, Troy Jurney, Madison Jurney, Anna Smith and Samantha Redmond; two great grandchildren, Paisley Collins and William Collins; one uncle, James Cline Gaither and one aunt, Mary Templeton Gaither.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home from 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM.
The funeral service for Mr. Jones will be held Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Clarksbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Bobby Henderson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
