Naomi Cartner Stroud, 96, Statesville, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015 at Gordon Hospice House. Born in Iredell County Nov. 7, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Percy Lee Cartner and Etta Foster Cartner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in Feb. 1995, by her husband, Garl L. Stroud, whom she married Nov. 24, 1937; one brother, Paul Cartner and three sisters, Beulah Prather, Mary Etta Godbey and Ruth Kimmer. Mrs. Stroud was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She worked for Drexel-Heritage Furniture in Mocksville. She took pride in her family, especially her two grandchildren, Adam Stroud and Leah Stroud. She loved spending time with them and creating many memories. Those left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Jesse and Annette Stroud of Mooresville; two grandchildren, Adam Stroud and Leah Stroud; one brother, John Cartner; one sister, Elizabeth Stroud and a special niece, who help with her care, Marie Prather. The family will receive friends Friday, Aug. 7, from 11 to 11:30 a.m. at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Westmoreland Chapel of the funeral home with Dr. Jesse Stroud officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to be made to Fern Hill Baptist Church or Hope Christian Academy 872 Fern Hill Road Mooresville, NC 28117.
