Born in Winding Gulf, West Virginia on August 13, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Henry Mason Word and Lettie Williams Word. Mrs. Cavendish was a homemaker and a member of First A.R.P. Church of Statesville.
On February 9, 1946, she married Mr. Chancie S. Cavendish, Jr. who died on August 7, 1995.
Survivors include three daughters, Susan Godfrey of Statesville, Penny Boggs and her husband, William, and Sandy Altham all of Troutman. Also surviving are grandchildren: Shannon Griffith, Will Boggs, Chancie Altham and Shanmei Altham and a great grandson, Brett Griffith. Also surviving is a brother, Henry Mason Word of Asheville.
Graveside services are scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Friday at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Will Anderson officiating. The family will speak with friends immediately following the service at the cemetery. At other times, the family will be gathered at the home of Sandy Altham at 488 State Park Rd. in Troutman.
