Marie Patterson Mason

She was born March 20, 1922, in Mecklenburg County, VA, and was the daughter of the late Eugene and Luna McCurdy Patterson. She was a devoted homemaker and mother and a member of Rocky Hill Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, sewing and canning and was an accomplished cook.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, D.D. Mason, whom she married on November 23, 1938; a son-in-law, David Ostwalt; a sister, Vona Duncan; four brothers, Pat, Paul, Grey and Isaac Patterson; and a great-grandchild, Anna Marie Sheets.

She is survived by four daughters, Lillie Marie Peppers (Bobby) of Troutman, Saleta Connolly (Larry), Sue Ostwalt and Rita Leazer (Warren), all of Statesville; a son, Larry Mason (T.J.) of Harmony; four sisters, Arlene Smith of Mooresville, Flossie Barnes of Taylorsville, Gay York and Mary Mason, both of Statesville; 18 grandchildren, Eddie, Vicki and Scott Wilkinson, Jeffrey and Keith Connolly, Todd, Andy and Ursula Mason, Elizabeth Smith, Jesse Ostwalt, Anita Burgess, Chris Creason, Toria Terwilliger, Mattew and Tyler Leazer, Sheila Metcalf, and Chris and Debbie Bailey; 17 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services celebrating Marie life will be held at 4:00 PM Thursday, July 5, 2012, at Rocky Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Henry C. Cook, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 PM Thursday at the church prior to the service.

Bud Patterson, Dale Mason, Bryant Mason, Frank Hutchens, Barry Benfield, and Randall Patterson will serve as pallbearers.
