He was born August 3, 1927, in Alexander County and was the son of the late Joel and Cora Bruce Mayberry. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Monticello Baptist Church. He was a retired electrician with the City of Statesville following 33 years of service. He was an avid fisherman and gardener.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Mary Warren Mayberry and Marie Patterson Mayberry; three brothers, Carl, Russell and Howard Mayberry; and three sisters, Mary Martin, Mildred Head, and Opal Mayberry.
He is survived by a son, Robert Wayne Mayberry of Statesville; a daughter, Judy Wease of Mocksville; a sister, Effie Queen of Stony Point; and a special friend, Virginia Christopher of Statesville.
Funeral service celebrating Roy’s life will be held at 3:00 PM today (Saturday, August 1) at Monticello Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens with military rites accorded by the Iredell County Veterans Council Burial Detail.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 PM today at the church prior to the service.
Larry Marlin, Barry Queen, Benny Head, Mike Honeycutt, Jimmy Lowrance, Raymond Mayberry, Allen Cranford and Matt Current will serve as pallbearers.
