Mr. James Harvey Stroud, 83, died peacefully in his sleep February 7, 2012, in the company of family and friends at Gordon Hospice House. Harvey was born in Iredell County on June 8, 1928 to the late James Rhoid and Nannie Stroud on the family farm.
He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 to 1954 and retired from Shaver Brothers. After his service in the Marine Corps, Harvey returned to the family farm where he happily resided for the balance of his life.
Harvey was a life long member of Society Baptist Church.
Harvey is survived by Rose Nicholson Stroud, his wife of 61 years; his daughter Karen Ann Stroud; his son James Keith Stroud and daughter-in-law Eleanor Panetti and Dobbs his beloved Irish Setter. In addition, Harvey is survived by Sadie Nicholson Daniels, Aldean Nicholson and wife Louise Nicholson, Brenda Nicholson Clanton, Eddie Nicholson and wife Gayle Nicholson, Debbie Nicholson Richardson, Meredith Nicholson, Sandra Barnard and a host of nieces and nephews, his extended family of whom he was very fond.
The Stroud family will receive family and friends at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home, 705 Davie Avenue, Statesville from 6:30 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2012. Services celebrating his life will be held at Society Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Friday February 10, 2012 with interment to follow in the church cemetery with full military honors accorded at the grave side by the Harmony American Legion Post 113.
The family wishes to thank the staff and volunteers of Gordon Hospice House for the care and comfort they provided to Harvey during the last five days of his life and to Davie County Home Health and Davie County Senior Services for the wonderful long term assistance provided for the last months of his life.
