She was born May 17, 1923, in Seville, OH, and was the daughter of the late Herle Lloyd and Luella Bell Immel. Iris graduated from Seville High School and attended the College of Wooster. Upon her retirement, she moved to Mooresville to be near her grandchildren, the love of her life. She enjoyed being a pink lady at Lake Norman Hospital and working the AARP tax aid program. She spent any spare time babysitting her grandchildren and numerous other children who regarded her as their Grandma as well. In 2000, she was honored with the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service. She was a faithful and active member of Berea Baptist Church in Mooresville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Keith and Dale Immel of Ohio.
She is survived by a son, Craig Rohrer and his wife, Debra, of Charleston, WV; a daughter, Cindy Hardin and her husband, Bob, of Statesville; five grandchildren, David Rohrer (Melissa), Leigh Muro (JC), Bobby Hardin (Jamie), Holly Hardin and Justin Hardin; four step-grandchildren, Allen Davis (Holly), Caroline Davis, Craig Davis (Holly) and Steven Davis; a great-granddaughter, Mia Muro; and a sister, Sally Allen of Creston, OH.
Services celebrating Iris’ life will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Berea Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Freeman officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home which is serving the family.
